Apple Music has a licensing fee for a suite of editing software called “AACEdition.”
The software is the only one in the catalog for Apple Music, which launched in late 2018, and its pricing is listed at $20 for the “AASampleAudio” license, $30 for the $70 “AasampleVideo” license and $60 for the license for the AASampleMusic.com suite.
The $20 price tag is a major obstacle for many music producers who want to launch their own audio editing software, but Apple Music doesn’t charge for that.
The company is currently negotiating a licensing deal with SoundCloud for “AATestream,” which has a higher price tag.
The $20 fee is a non-starter for many, but it’s a nonstarter for Apple, which is hoping to make money from the licensing fees.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Apple said, “Apple Music does not have a pricing structure for the licenses that it offers.
The pricing structure is set by Apple, and we will work with Soundcloud to determine a licensing structure for their services.”
SoundCloud has not yet responded to our request for comment.
