The researchers, from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, looked at the apps available for smartphones to see what made them different from apps available in the store.
There are apps that make a game, like Candy Crush Saga, which is popular for its addictive gameplay and fun aesthetic, but there are apps for making games and apps that can be used as virtual reality headsets, such as The Oculus Rift and The HTC Vive.
“A smartphone’s interface is the interface of its app,” said lead author and PhD student Daniel J. Reiman, a senior research scientist in Carnegie Mellon’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
“So what you need to know is how to make the interface work for your app, and then the interface works for the app.
And then the app will work on the phone.
So it’s not just about making the app feel good, it’s about the app feeling good.”
That’s a pretty interesting approach,” Reiman said.
In this case, the researchers’ aim was to discover how to create a game that can work with the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and HTC Vive headsets.

The app allows users to create an avatar for themselves, and to then choose an avatar based on the user’s preferences.

The researchers had access to the Google Play Store, so they were able to download an early version of the app for their study.
“It wasn’t a really simple app, it wasn’t like we had to just get the Google app, we just downloaded the Google application,” Reimais said.
But the app works.
The team used it to make a variety from a simple “melt” game to a more complicated game called The Oculus Story.
The researchers then made a prototype for the game using a simple game engine, and tested it out on a number different devices.
They used it on a Nokia Lumia 1020, HTC One M8, and an HTC Vive headset.
It worked very well.
And then, Reimas used it for his own project.
