White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said Friday he doesn’t know if President Donald Trump’s Twitter tirade on Friday was true.
Priebus, who was one of the most vocal opponents of Trump’s response to Charlottesville, was asked by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer if he was surprised by the president’s response.
“No, I’m not surprised.
I was there,” Priebus responded.
“I was in that room, I was in a room with him.
And I was told that we were not there.”
The president tweeted that “both sides” were to blame for the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and said he had spoken to the National Guard, police and other first responders.
He also referred to “both white supremacists and antifa,” a reference to far-right protesters who organized counter-protest groups.
